Meet the 2017 Speakers
Jeff McMillan is Managing Director, Chief Analytics & Data Officer for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, where he is responsible for all aspects of Wealth Management’s strategy to leverage analytics, data and artificial intelligence to drive growth and efficiencies across the firm. Jeff is a leader in Wealth Managements efforts to transform its operating model to deliver even higher quality advice and scalable solutions, leveraging the most advanced analytical and artificially intelligent capabilities available. Prior to his current responsibilities, Jeff has held a variety of leadership roles at Morgan Stanley, including leading the integration of the firm’s advisor and client platforms as part of the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney merger, overseeing the firms digital strategy and development of all product and advisory platforms, as well as owning the build out of Wealth Managements Research capabilities. Before joining Morgan Stanley, Jeff had a variety of roles within financials services, with a deep focus on business transformation, digital enablement and analytics.
Maryam saleh, phd
Maryam is passionate about moving ideas into the market, where it can have impact and improve lives. She is entrepreneur-in-residence at Abundant Venture Partners, where her current mandate is to build a business that enables health systems to predict when individuals are in need of a healthcare intervention, by analyzing their behavior. Maryam has spent most of her career in healthcare, starting companies or incubating startups. She was part of the launch team at MATTER, Chicago's hub for healthcare innovation, where her team designed programs to support the needs of over 200 healthcare startups. She also founded the Center for Device Development at Northwestern University, where she hired doctors and engineers to build medical device businesses, based on a vetted unmet need. Earlier in her career, she was a founding member of Cyberkinetics Neurotechnology Systems Inc., a company that built a brain implant to restore movement in severely paralyzed individuals. She holds a B.Sc. in Computer engineering from Brown University and a PhD in Computational Neuroscience from the University of Chicago
Jack Levis is Senior Director of Process Management for UPS; responsible for operations strategy, execution, and Operations Research. Since joining UPS in 1976, as a part time loader Jack’s 37-year career provided significant experience in both operations and staff functions. In his current role he successfully created and executed a vision for operations with OR/MS at the core. Jack’s work has garnered many awards for UPS as well as increased media attention. Jack holds a B.A. in psychology from California State University Northridge and a Masters Certificate, Project Management, George Washington University.
Adam McElhinney is currently the Head of Data Science at Uptake Technologies, where he leads a team of 75 Data Scientists building cutting-edge industrial data analytics tools. Additionally, Adam is an Adjunct Professor in the Computer Science Department at Illinois Institute of Technology. Formerly, he was the Head of Business Analytics and the Head of Marketing Analytics at Enova Financial where he helped grow the company from a small startup to a publicly traded online lending leader that currently employs more than 1,000 associates in the Chicagoland area. He has previously worked as a management consultant as well as an analyst designing simulations for the Department of Defense. Adam is serving his seventh year on the Board of the Chicago Chapter of the American Statistical Association. Adam holds a Masters in Statistics from University of Illinois-Chicago and has undergraduate degrees in Mathematics, Economics and Political Science from Indiana University-Bloomington.
Jeanne is the co-author (with Tom Davenport) of the extensively updated new edition of Competing on Analytics: The New Science of Winning (Fall, 2017), which explains how high-performance businesses are building competitive strategies around data-driven insights that are generating impressive business results. Harvard Business Review editors named the first edition of the book one of the top breakthrough ideas of the 21st Century. Her other book (with co-authors Tom Davenport and Bob Morison), Analytics at Work: Smarter Decisions, Better Results (2010), shows how organizations can create an analytical capability that enables them to routinely make better decisions in every aspect of their business. She has also authored over 100 articles on analytics and information technology.
Eric J. McNulty holds an appointment as Director of Research and Professional Programs and Program Faculty at the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative (NPLI), a joint program of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and as an Instructor at the Harvard School of Public Health. His work centers on leadership in high-stakes, high-stress situations. He is the co-author of the second edition of Renegotiating Health Care: Resolving Conflict to Build Collaboration (Jossey-Bass, 2011). He is also co-author of a chapter on meta-leadership in the McGraw-Hill Homeland Security Handbook (2012) and the e-books Your Critical First 10 Days as a Leader (O’Reilly/Safari, 2015) and Three Critical Shifts for the Evolving Leader (O’Reilly, 2016). McNulty co-founded Harvard Business Publishing’s conference business and served as its director for six years. He produced thought leadership events around the world working with some of the most celebrated executives and management experts. He also developed custom programs in collaboration with leading companies such as Accenture, Coca-Cola, SAS, UPS, Visa, and others.
Doug Gray currently serves as Director of Enterprise Data & Analytics within Southwest Airlines’ Technology Department. In this role, Doug is responsible for leading all teams involved in Analytical Data Foundation Solutions, Data Platform Engineering, Business Intelligence & Reporting Solutions, Self-Service Analytics Solutions, Advanced Analytics Solutions, and Solutions for major commercial, operations and enterprise programs. Doug implemented an Aircraft Recovery Irregular Operations Optimizer, which assists Southwest’s dispatchers in reorganizing the flight schedule and passenger flow in response to service disruptions. Doug also implemented SkyMAX and SkySYM, a schedule optimizer and partner program that maximize profit and on time performance. Doug later rolled out the Gate Optimizer and the Enhanced Passenger Demand Forecaster, tools that analyze constraints to assign planes to specific gates and forecast passenger loads across the system on any given day, respectively. Doug is also an Adjunct Professor of Analytics at SMU’s Cox School of Business in the IT/Operations Management Department where he teaches an elective on Business Analytics to Executive MBA Students.
IIA Co-Founder and Analytics Thought Leader, Tom Davenport helps guide IIA’s research efforts. He is the President’s Distinguished Professor of IT and Management at Babson College, and a research fellow at the MIT Center for Digital Business. Tom’s “Competing on Analytics” idea was named by Harvard Business Review as one of the twelve most important management ideas of the past decade and the related article was named one of the ten ‘must read’ articles in HBR’s 75 year history. His most recent book, co-authored with Julia Kirby, is Only Humans Need Apply: Winners and Losers in the Age of Smart Machines.
